Educated at St. Mary's, Oscott.
Entered T.C.D. 18th Jan 1830; B.A.;
Called to the Irish Bar, 4th May 1833.
Represented Kerry in the British Parliament from 1835 to 1852.
Was J.P. and D.L. for Co. Kerry, but was deprived of both commissions because he was a member of the Repeal organisation.
The financial crash arising from the Famine led to his resignation from Parliament in 1852, when he was called to the English Bar and started to practise.
In 1863 he succeeded his Uncle, William Coppinger, in the Barry's Court property, and, in 1864, he succeeded his mother in the Clare property - the McMahon estate.
He was a close companion of Thackeray, and both were members (with Charles Dickens) of an institution called "Old Fielding's Club". |
